Animal Care and Control Plans Before Black Friday Sale

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC) reminds residents to “adopt, don’t shop” with a pre-vacation adoption sale.

FWACC says the sale will begin at noon this Friday, November 19, with the adoption center open until 8 p.m. at 3020 Hillegas Road.

Adoption fees for all cats, kittens and pets will be waived, and fees for dogs 6 months and older have been lowered to $ 25. The special will also run on November 23 from noon to 5:30 p.m. and November 24 from noon to 6 p.m., officials said. The shelter will be closed on November 25 and 26 for Thanksgiving.

The $ 25 adoption fee upon sale includes:

  • First series distemper vaccine
  • Microchip
  • Sterilized or sterilized surgery
  • Health examination given by a local veterinarian
  • Heartworm tested
  • First dose of flea treatment
  • Small food bag to start you and your pet
  • $ 50 certificate to be used for working with a professional dog trainer

Shelter officials say adoptions are first come, first served, so they encourage people to arrive early. To be sure you can get your new four-legged friend home right away, the shelter says to follow these steps:

  • If you have pets in the home, we will require your dog (s) to MEET the potential adoption dog. So please come early so that you can meet the animal and your dog can also meet his new friend!
  • Bring your whole family. Children 5 and under will need to meet the potential adoption animal.
  • If you are adopting a cat or small animal, no animal-to-animal interaction will be required.

They say you can also save time by filling out an online application before you go to the shelter. To see which animals are available for adoption or to learn more about the adoption process, visit fwacc.org.
