Austin FC caretaker helps foster dog from local shelter

AUSTIN (KXAN) – After a hard day training with Austin FC, footballer Will Pulisic knows he can return home with a warm welcome from his foster dog, Black Rose.

“When I come back from training, I open the door, and she’s there, wagging her tail and running towards me,” Pulisic said. “It’s good.”

Clear the Shelters, which runs August 23 through September 18, aims to help pets in need of a good home in central Texas – but that doesn’t just mean adopting.

In addition to potential adopters, shelters are also looking for foster families, who can give animals a much-needed break from shelter life and help them make the transition home.

This is how Pulisic, a young goalkeeper from Austin FC, and his girlfriend Mia met Black Rose, a four-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier who has fitted in perfectly with the couple’s life.

Pulisic said his family welcomed three dogs when he was in elementary school and was also inspired by Austin FC’s partnership with Austin Pets Alive! Every home game at Q2 Stadium has an APA! dog available for adoption as the team’s honorary mascot.

“We wanted to help these dogs by giving them a chance to be in foster care, which will open up space for APA !, so they can have a larger capacity and give another dog a chance.” , did he declare.

The couple weren’t ready to adopt but wanted to adopt, so they met APA! and told them what they were looking for.

After meeting a few different dogs, they found Black Rose, who had been living at the shelter for two months but was not getting much attention. Pulisic said she only had a few photos and her description of her personality was limited as the shelter didn’t know much about her.

In July, Black Rose moved in with the couple – and now they’re “attached” to her.

“The last month and a half has been amazing,” said Pulisic. “She’s amazing, she’s so easy and low-maintenance. She’s always happy, she’s so friendly so it’s been a great experience with her.

Pulisic said that Black Rose loves to go for walks, to sit at Mia’s feet while she works at home and watches TV.

“She is very well trained at home, she is so loving and she just wants to be with you,” he added. “She’s just a joy to have around.”
