DeAnna Athey, 34, from Aurora, passed away on Wednesday July 7, 2021, CHI-St. Francis Medical Center on Grand Island.
The Service of Life Celebration will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 11 at the East Hill Church of Christ, 1122 Delaware Avenue in York. Reverend Glenn Hawley will officiate. No visit. The family requests a casual dress and face masks to be worn during the service. Memories can be made to the care of the family for future designation. The Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is taking care of the arrangements. Condolences can be emailed to the family through the morgue website at www.higbymortuary.com.
DeAnna Leigh Athey, daughter of Marvin Scott and Mary Margaret (Grotzky) Athey, Jr., was born on Grand Island on November 18, 1986, and died on Grand Island on July 7, 2021 at the age of 34.
DeAnna grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 2005. While going to school, DeAnna volunteered at Aurora Animal Shelter. She then worked at McDonald’s in Aurora from 2006 to 2011. She moved to York and worked for Walmart from 2011 to 2019. DeAnna returned to live in the area with her sister, Barbara, in Hampton and returned to work with her family. McDonald’s until she died.
DeAnna was a baptized member of the East Hill Church of Christ in York. She loved being in the York Bowling Leagues. She loved her family, friends, children and animals and took care of her beautiful flowers. DeAnna especially loved to spoil her nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father; grandparents, Richard and Barbara Grotzky and Marvin and Vesta Athey; aunt, JoAnn Grotzky and niece, Lauren Grace Athey.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his mother, Marie d’Aurora; four siblings, Verl Scott (Lindsay) Athey of Fort. Collins, CO, Barbara Athey of Aurora, Matthew (Mary) Athey of Greeley, CO and Michael Athey of Benton, AR; cousin, Tina Grotzky of Grand Island and many other family members and countless friends.
