CANTON OF HANOVRE, COUNTY OF LUZERNE (WBRE / WYOU) – It’s the day after Cyber Monday and a busy Black Friday shopping weekend that our attention turns to charity.
Today is “Give Tuesday” when nonprofits around the world seek public financial support.
The American Red Cross is there for disaster. This year, a lot has happened. The Red Cross says it responded to a new major relief effort every 11 days.
” We are introducing ourselves. We make sure people have a place to stay, that they have clothes, that they have food and we do it around the clock, ”said Gail McGovern, President and CEO of the Red Cross American.
This includes two fires on the same day recently in Schuylkill County. Almost two dozen people combined have been displaced.
“If you are the victim of a house fire, you know, for you it is as catastrophic as a Category 4 hurricane. So my heart goes out to the people of Schuylkill County who lost their homes at such a time. tough of the year, ”said McGovern.
To help cope with each crisis, the Red Cross relies on donations throughout the year and in particular on Tuesday I give.
“We rely on the generosity of the American public for every part of our mission. And we are asking people this season for donations to open their hearts and help the American Red Cross, ”said McGovern.
Giving Tuesday is also a boon to Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, home to nearly 200 abandoned, abused and neglected farm animals.
“This is a critical day of support for us. Last year we were able to raise a significant amount of funds to build a shelter for one of the groups of animals we have, ”said Robin Olson, Development Director of Indraloka Wildlife Sanctuary.
This year, the goal is to raise enough funds for two building overhangs that would prevent snow from falling and ice from forming right up to the barn doors.
“It gives the animals an outdoor space in the winter, but it’s also incredible protection from the elements,” Olson explained.
Donate Tuesday, help animals and people.
American Red Cross and Indraloka Wildlife Sanctuary are just two of the organizations that might need your help. If you would like to donate to Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, Click here or go to their Facebook for more information.
