More than 30 animals are receiving emergency medical care Friday at the Horry County Animal Care Center, forcing the center to be temporarily closed to the public.
Police are working with center staff to investigate a case of animal neglect, and the closure will last until at least Saturday, Horry County Police said in a news release.
The Conway center will not be able to conduct adoptions or accept abandonments or wanderings from owners during the closure, the statement said.
Rescues will continue on a case-by-case basis, and concerned citizens are encouraged to call the county‘s non-emergency dispatch line at 843-248-1520 for animal-related public safety concerns.
No further details regarding the negligence investigation were immediately available.
