Meals on Wheels Rowan and Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary join forces for “August is for AniMEALS”

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) – Meals on Wheels Rowan is partnering with Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary for their annual “August is for AniMEALs.” August is for AniMEALs is a month-long campaign and collaboration with local businesses to raise pet food and donations to support pet companions of homebound seniors in Rowan County who receive meals delivered to their homes.

Kimberly Hardiman of Hardiman Designs, Debbie Barnhardt of Barnhardt Jewelers and Lorna Medinger of Hughes Plumbing Supply teamed up to host Meals on Wheels Rowan’s “August is for AniMEALS” in 2019. The event continues to grow each year. Last year Rowan’s Meals on Wheels collected nearly two tons of pet food, raised over $12,000 for AniMEALS and over $5,000 for human meals.

August is for AniMEALS was such a success that AniMEALS President Kim Hardiman suggested that Meals on Wheels and Faithful Friends join forces. Hardiman said: “We were blown away by the support we received last year, we decided to raise $10,000 and raising over $17,000 was fantastic. As always, our goal is to dream big or go home. This year, we want to raise $20,000. By partnering with Faithful Friends, we can benefit even more animals in Rowan County.

Meals on Wheels Executive Director Cindy Fink said, “We are so grateful to Kim, Debbie and Lorna for Kim, Debbie and Lorna’s hard work in growing this fundraiser. The food we collect in August is for AniMEALS and lasts us about six months. We love the idea of bringing in loyal friends to share in the profits and the food. said Cindy Fink, executive director of Meals on Wheels. Faithful Friends Board Chair Marcia Parrot added, “We look forward to this collaboration. We believe that the pet support that Meals on Wheels provides to their customers is extremely important and we are grateful that they pay attention to the health needs of their customers and their pets.

Contributions will provide funds for rabies vaccinations, wellness checks and grooming when needed. Currently, 58 Meals on Wheels recipients have pets and participate in the AniMEALS program. Pet food collected in August will be used to provide Meals on Wheels participants with pet food for the next 6 months. Faithful Friends director Mary Padavick said: “We take all breeds and ages of cats and dogs, with a variety of health and medical issues. Some stay for a few days, others can stay for years.
