Animal lovers in the Easton area looking to meet new feline friends have a great opportunity this coming weekend.
Feline Urban Rescue and Rehab is hosting a Pop Up Cat Cafe from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 15 at the Forks Township Community Center. Admission is $ 5.
You can meet cats for adoption and even snuggle up to them. There will also be cat items for sale, family friendly cat activities, cat education opportunities / resources and refreshments.
Feline Urban Rescue and Rehab paired over 700 families with cats last year. Some are from deportees or other animal welfare organizations.
“FURR accepts cats when no one else does,” a spokesperson said in a press release.
The organization serves Lehigh Valley and Warren County, but it does not have an official building, just a PO Box in Stewartsville.
Last year, the organization managed to trap, sterilize and return 700 cats to supported colonies. Its 25 volunteers work in conjunction with the Lehigh County Humane Society, Let’s Trap Lehigh Valley, Furry Feet Rescue and various veterinarians.
The group works with farmers through a free barn cat program and promotes pet companionship for the elderly through their Senior for Seniors program, where an elderly person welcomes an elderly cat and organizes provide for the veterinary needs and future care of the cat.
All the profits from cat coffee will go to the cats, as FURR has no paid staff.
To help, visit the organization’s website at felineurbanrescueandrehab.org and complete a volunteer application. FURR is always looking for host families, drivers and trappers.
